It is widely recognized that high-quality school leadership plays a central role in driving improvements in schools. When the development of school leadership abilities is supported in a planned and systematic manner, it can become a powerful strategy for enhancing learning outcomes. This article presents the creation and validation of a Management System for Leadership Development at the local level within the context of Chile's New Public Education system. Its purpose is to serve as a tool to support Local Public Education Services (Servicios Locales de Educación Pública, SLEP) in identifying and training leadership in their territories. Funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo, ANID) and developed in collaboration with various entities, the project was grounded in a co-design approach. The article reports the key findings from this experience, which involved the development of four interrelated components: defining leadership profiles, identifying potential leaders, diagnosing training needs, and planning of training. The proposed system is conceived as a strategic instrument for advancing toward more coherent, relevant, and evidence-based educational governance.
