Abstract

This research describes the relationship between rationality and the design of strategic decisions and intends to define how cognitive flexibility and conflict can affect the rationality level in the strategic decision-making process. To this end, the study chose a sample of 71 universities in Chile and Spain. Results from this research demonstrate that 72.5% (p < 0.01) of the strategic decisions design responds to the rationality level in which these decisions are made. On the other hand, 79.0% (p < 0.01) of the rationality respond to the level of cognitive flexibility and conflict in the strategic decisions making process. Hence, the strategic decisions making process needs high levels of cognitive flexibility and conflict for university institutions reach success in the design of decisions as such.
