This paper briefly describes the history of technical education in Chile. It shows how it passed from elementary education to higher education, in close connection with the labor world. Up until recently, technical education was limited almost exclusively to the production of goods while at present it is increasingly linked to information technologies and the teaching of skills such as team work, resource and personnel management, verbal communication skills and learning English. The paper describes the current status of higher level technical education in Chile and discusses its prospects.Downloads
