Based on the traditional role of universities, the paper discusses how universities are generally perceived. After concluding that the way in which universities disseminate information about their activities is through their publications, the paper analyses the problem of spreading knowledge and the cost involved. Finally, it promotes the alternative of self-sufficiency in terms of data search and retrieval as needed by any individual involved.Downloads
