The past decade has been a highly dynamic period for higher education in Chile, as evidenced by the numerous institutions that have emerged in this field, in their composition, the number of students enrolled and in the changes experienced in the preferences of applicants for different areas of knowledge. The foregoing emphasizes the consolidation of the category called "University".
The changes experienced by the tertiary education system should, on the one
hand, act as a warning to the education authorities, in order to implement specific public policies to stimulate special areas of knowledge and, on the other hand, encourage educational centers to re-orient what they are offering in terms of
education.
