Abstract

In Chile it is very difficult to find research approaches addressing educational paths, mostly in the case of technical education. However, it is urgent to rely on this kind of analysis due to the dilemma existing between its contribution to increasing productivity and the value it has in terms of income earned after graduation. This work shows findings that have to be considered in the debate on educational and labor paths of technicians and represents a methodological input for facing this issue more inclusively. It uses the Casen Panel Survey to design those paths and applies a multinomial model to analyze social stratification patterns finding that educative transitions respond to the total per capita income and localization at the Metropolitan area. It is evident that graduates from both cohorts studied did not prefer to study in technical education centers. This represents a limiting factor for the analysis.
