Abstract

The present work has examined the residence programs for medical specialists of seven Chilean universities. The aim of the study was to investigate educational training featuring in clinical research and ethical instruction and compare them to the scientific productivity. Overall, it quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed 56 residence programs and graduate students between years 1999 and 2005. The results shown here revealed that residence programs are based in a tutorial educational system where the tight relationship between professors and students is essential for the final educative outcome. In addition, residence program curricula showed high intention for clinical research and lesser for ethical education. Only incipient research productivity was evident between students when scientific articles published in ISI and SCIELO journals were measured.
