The article deals with the subject of inter-individual diversity and its effect on learning among higher education students. It describes why many people view diversity as a problem which leads them to assume that it should give rise to unfavorable effects on the results of education. The article contains a summary of empirical evidence that points exactly to the contrary. It develops a theoretical model for adult learning that helps understand these results. Lastly, as a by-product of the model, it describes certain conditions needed for diversity to have a positive effect on learning.Downloads
