When planning mental health support services, the emotional problems and personality traits of teenagers and young students need to be taken into account to avoid risk behaviors that may lead to dropping out and to low academic performance. The paper reviews the increasing number of students in the Chilean higher education system from the point of view of human capital. It shows how mental problems increase among the more vulnerable university population, both from a socioeconomic perspective as well as from that of family dysfunctions. The paper describes personality traits based on the MyersBriggs personality types, and the data found coincide with international literature. The conclusion drawn is that having a mental health care system in universities is important given the considerable number of students at risk of presenting emotional disorders during the time they are studying.Downloads
