The purpose of this article is to prepare a balance on the development of quality assurance experiences in higher education in Latin America and contribute to reflect on the future scenarios that these experiences will face. The first part of the paper presents the most common factors that characterize Latin American educational systems and that have a direct effect on their quality; the second part reviews quality assessment systems in Latin America in the context described and, lastly, the paper ends by providing some reflections which emerge as a result of the reality observed.Downloads
