Chile is in a precarious situation in terms of the number of students who receive Ph.D.s each year from the country's universities. Stated in standardized figures with regard to the country's population, the number of individuals who are awarded a doctor's degree results in a figure which is twenty to thirty times less than that of advanced countries. Public and academic policies, in addition to the social understanding required to overcome the major deficit of doctors in Chile, are clearly insufficient.
