Abstract

This paper explores the relationship between educational level and participation in the work force in Chile, and the changes that have occurred between 1992 and 2002, stemming from the data generated by the population censuses. The purpose of this study is to supplement the characterization of the work force regarding its educational level, and suggest lines of work covering the impact of education in productivity. The results obtained in average schooling and educational levels by the population either already participating or that might eventually participate in the work force are shown. Finally, the changes in the educational profiles by economic sectors, and the differences in the participation of men and women according to their educational level are discussed. These subjects are suggested as an approach for future studies on the education-productivity relationship
