Abstract

The reading behavior of young Chilean university students during their last years of study, and the possibility of projecting their eventual disposition as future book consumers, has motivated a research which is discussed in this article. After this research, background information was obtained that allowed characterizing the behavior of young readers, their level of valuation of books, and the channels through which they access them. The quantitative analysis is the result of a relationship between the original institutions of the students (either financed by the State or private), and the fields of study of the individuals. The latter have been classified as Art, Social Sciences, Basic Sciences, and Applied Sciences students.
