In recent decades, higher education (HE) in Chile has experienced a profound change in addition to a highly significant expansion in the coverage provided. This has given rise to concern over the relative value of HE. The existence of a constantly changing job market makes both descriptive information and projective information on jobs a key element for the HE system. Therefore, the Ministry of Education is implementing a project known as the "Job observatory". This will help generate detailed, complete, projective and readily accessible information on the supply of graduates and the occupational demand for HE graduates to aid individuals, organizations and the State in their respective decision making processes. The outcome of the project referred to
above will be a regular publication entitled "Manual on Professional occupations".
