Abstract

This paper addresses aspects of teaching in higher education based on a specific statement of its value and on hopeful signs for its further development. A continuum could be built starting from those who view teaching as a "necessary evil", that enables them to do research in peace, through to growing groups of academicians who acknowledge the need for higher level teaching coupled with the development of science and technology in terms of its design, implementation and evaluation of its outcomes. Teaching and technology information computer systems (TICs) as well as the claims of teachers who dare to innovate, are the high points in a framework where the importance of the major questions on curricula and curricular design are acknowledged, as is the use of appropriate technology, which cannot become an end in itself.
